Kendrick Lamar為美國目前最炙手可熱的饒舌歌手，台灣人可能認識他的不多，今年看葛萊美獎也都是在看Taylor Swift跟The Weeknd等流行樂的獎項，但事實上Kendrick Lamar是有11項提名、5項獲獎的本屆最大贏家，完全制霸所有饒舌獎項。
我要介紹的歌是收錄於2015年專輯 《To Pimp a Butterfly》最後一首的Mortal Man。這整張專輯的歌曲都非常棒，這首歌則是我個人的最愛，Kendrick期許自己成為像前南非總統曼德拉那樣的人，渴望為自己的家鄉、族群、世界帶來不同。他用一首詩貫穿整張專輯，前幾首歌提及幾句，到最後唸完這首詩，完整闡述了這張專輯的訴說的故事。而歌曲後半則是Kendrick與已故歌手2Pac的訪談，並用另一首詩描述了他在這瘋狂世界中經歷過的轉變。
我介紹這首歌是因為希望更多人可以認識這張專輯、這首歌，但翻譯部分比較是自己的嘗試練習，如果有錯誤或覺得不夠好的地方還請見諒，也希望各位不吝給予建議及指正。

南非首位黑人總統，許多人也視他為南非國父，一生致力於廢除種族隔離制度和實現種族和解，消除貧困和不公，1993年獲得諾貝爾和平獎。Kendrick Lamar在這首歌期許自己與歌迷們跟隨曼德拉的腳步，為自己的家鄉帶來正義。在歌詞中有時叫他Mandela，也有不少段稱呼他Nelson。
註2) nigga 同nigger，本意是黑鬼
黑人間常會使用這個詞稱呼彼此，有點像是man、dude的用法，但這個詞本身仍然是帶歧異的，所以如果你不是黑人，強烈建議天塌下來都不要用。

第一個”fan”是指風扇，當屎打到風扇上怎麼聽都超糟的吧，所以這句話代表遇到麻煩事、陷入糟糕的處境。第二個”fan”則是粉絲、支持者，同一句這個詞卻是不同意思看第一眼會有點混淆，不過再看一次應該馬上可以懂他的意思。

莫非定律是指「凡是可能出錯的事都一定會出錯。」而且如果有比較糟糕的選項，會發生的一定會是最糟糕的那個。最常用的比喻就是「麵包落地的時候，永遠是抹奶油的一面著地。」Kendrick在這一段再次問他的支持者們，若是事情出錯、最壞的情況發生，你們還會支持我嗎？

註15) Jackie 傑基羅賓森(1919~1972)
美國大聯盟史上第一位非裔球員，1947年首度登上大聯盟，當時仍是種族隔離的年代，羅賓森不論場上場下都飽受歧視與欺壓，但持續用實力證明自己，贏得新人王、MVP、世界大賽，並入選名人堂。為紀念這位偉大的球員，1997年全聯盟將羅賓森的背號42號球衣退役，這是職業體壇的空前創舉。大聯盟也將他首次登上大聯盟的日子4月15日訂為傑基羅賓森日，在這天大聯盟每位選手都會穿上42號球衣。

註17) Michael Jackson 麥可傑克森(1958~2009)
流行音樂之王，在音樂、舞蹈上都是帶領時代潮流的重要人物，締造單屆葛萊美12項提名、8項得獎的紀錄，專輯《顫慄》(Thriller，1982)被《金氏世界紀錄大全》認定為空前的最佳銷量流行音樂唱片。後面歌詞也會提及，傑克森曾被指控性侵男童，傑克森過世後，男童出面聲明，此事件皆為男童父親謀得傑克森金錢的陰謀並正式向傑克森道歉。但即使司法證明了他的清白，冗長的官司與搜查對傑克森的身心及名譽都造成不可逆的影響，他的親友也指出，他的健康狀況自此開始走下坡，年僅50歲就去世。

本名為Tupac Shakur，台灣翻譯為吐派克夏庫爾。美國知名的饒舌歌手，許多人認為他是史上最偉大的饒舌歌手之一。2Pac的歌曲充斥暴力、黑人貧民區、種族主義、社會福利問題，也不時會在歌曲中與其他饒舌歌手爭鬥。他的作品多反映政上、經濟、社會及種族的平等，並且充滿激進的革命反抗意識。2Pac已經過世多年，Kendrick剪輯了2Pac生前接受採訪的影音，製作成Kendrick自己跟這位已故的歌手訪談、對話。

中文真的沒有單字可以對應啦。這個詞你查到的通常是「拉客的人、騙徒」，其實很類似”pimp”，查pimp會出現「皮條客」，也就是幫妓女拉客、或是掌控妓女產業的老闆。但現在hustler的意思延伸指一個人很懂得用聰明的方法賺錢，他用計謀、技巧、方法達到他的目的。動物方城市也用了”hustle”這個詞，印象中字幕翻譯「話術」，其實意思是等同這首歌提到的，可以說是「我用了好方法得到我想要的東西了」。
註22) Nat Turner 奈特杜納(1800~1831)
十九世紀於美國的一名非洲裔奴隸，曾在1831年8月21日領導一群反對奴隸制的奴隸及自由黑人起義，導致55至65白人死亡。然而這起事件發生後，被激怒的白人民兵為了報復，在平息叛亂的過程中殺死超過200名黑人。
Kendrick Lamar在接受訪問時說這首歌並不是要告訴大家他有能力當個英雄，而是在問大家是否相信他能做這些事。當麻煩事來臨，若是他遭到指控，他的粉絲會相信他、支持他，還是背棄、詆毀他。他提到Michael Jackson時讓我感觸特別深，我是MJ的歌迷，我讀過很多關於他官司的文章，他這樣一個流行樂天王受到利慾薰心的人不實指控，即使最後宣告他無罪，整個官司已經對他造成嚴重的傷害，當然許多歌迷都對他毫不懷疑，但他仍遭受了可怕的輿論、大量的懷疑與譏諷。Kendrick就是提及此事希望人們信任他。
Kendrick念了一首詩給2Pac聽，描述他漸漸獲得名利，但這名利也帶來許多痛苦，他想回家鄉教導人們他所學到的事，但他也質疑自己到底有沒有能力為這些人帶來改變，也許他只是個平凡人。
第二首詩描述的是自己的經過，他本來是受困於枷鎖中，費盡千辛萬苦獲得自由，蛻變成閃耀的巨星。他期望的是帶領他那些還受困於枷鎖中的同伴，一同讓世人看到他們的價值。但他唸完這首詩時，2Pac卻已經不在了。
改革之路漫長，究竟會有多少人犧牲，多少人能撐到最後看到他們打贏戰爭？
像Kendrick Lamar這麼有理念的歌手的很少見，比起單純娛樂大眾的歌曲，他是真正在用他的方法試著改變世界。
